everyone smokes in la

in the cars,

on the streets,

in the bars,

where you never know who you just might meet

when i think la i see smoke

a thick cloud of mystery that screams home

i loathe people from la

they are all overbearing with a hint of comical relief,

pleading they will make it only for a duration of the world to not even know their name

they are mere

tuffs of thick smog,

drifting in the distance

you're no good if you're from california,

but you are also looked at with this perpetual state of awe

you can be anything in la

a starlet, lifeless, too eager to succeed

but california girls are unforgettable

california girls know what it's like to be lost, to be unsure of where home is

we wander and wander,

praying to be found in this land where our inner dialogue becomes all we have left

i sit by a man i met minutes ago and i wonder,

who the hell wouldn't want to be here?

with a criminal scent in the air i know all too well, i realize,

this is my home,

this is where i discover fate, where i explore boundaries and morals

but is this where i truly discover what ground i stand on with utmost afirmity?

“so you're one of those california girls?” he asks me

all i see is smoke, smoke, smoke

the land i call my home,

and all i can do is half grin
